Here’s How To Enjoy Christmas When You’re Pregnant

Christmas might look different when you’re expecting a baby, but it doesn’t mean you can’t have a great time – follow our tips to enjoy Christmas when you’re pregnant.

While your normal Christmas drinks might be off the menu, and you might be too tired to stay up all night, it doesn’t mean you can't have fun. Our tips will help you look after yourself while still enjoying the festivities.

10 Ways To Enjoy Christmas When You’re Pregnant

1. Mix Up Your Drinks

Don’t feel like you have to stick to boring lemonade, unless you want to. Try an alcohol-free festive mocktail, or a drink from a brand like Seedlip, which make distilled alcohol-free drinks in a variety of tasty flavours.

2. Enjoy What you Eat

While certain things might be off the menu – read our guide to pregnancy food to eat and avoid - it doesn’t mean you can’t still have some of your festive favourites. Try and eat smaller portions rather than giant feasts to avoid pregnancy heartburn. Stock up on pregnant-friendly indigestion remedies, too.

3. Yes, You Can Have A Cheeseboard

While there are some cheeses you should avoid during pregnancy, it does not mean you can’t tuck into a cheese board at parties. Pasteurized cheese, hard blue cheese and baked cheese are all OK to eat during pregnancy. Read about it in our guide to cheese during pregnancy.

4. Invest In A Festive Outfit

You may not be able to fit into your usual sparkly dress, but try and find one outfit that makes you look and feel good, that you are comfortable in. If you go for something plain, you can mix up your accessories for a different look each time.

It doesn’t have to be brand new either. There are lots of maternity bargains to be had over on eBay and Vinted. We have more tips on cheaper maternity style in our post on how to save money when pregnant.

5. Nap During The Day

If you’re going out in the evening, try and prepare with a nap during the day. If you can’t nap, try and lie down and relax instead. It’s important to recharge your batteries when you’re more tired than normal.

6. Go Home When You Want

Don’t feel obliged to stay till the end of your Christmas party. Leave when you want, you have a perfect excuse.

7. Shop Online

Avoid the exhaustion of Christmas shopping in busy shops when your feet hurt. Buy everything online instead.

8. Sit It Out

This is the year to let other people take over while you rest and take it easy. Make sure someone else does the cooking, preparation and tidying up while you rest on the sofa (if you want!)

9. Be Prepared

Make sure you’re aware of the out-of-hours numbers for midwives, doctors or your hospital to call if you need to over the festive period. Hopefully you won’t need them, though! And if you’re nearing the end of your pregnancy, pack your hospital bag, just in case.

10. Think Of The Positives

You won’t wake up with a hangover. Stretchy waistbands are a winner! And soon you’ll have the best present of all, your baby.
