Ultra Cod Liver Oil provides a combination of Cod Liver Oil plus Omega-3 Fish Oil. It also includes Vitamin A and Vitamin D. An additional Omega-3 supplement is not required.

Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should not take cod liver oil as it contains high levels of vitamin A which should be avoided. For Omega-3 supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding try Pregnacare Plus, Pregnacare Max or Pregnacare Breast-feeding.

Maternal intake of DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) contributes to the normal brain and eye development of breast-fed infants***. Infants have limited capability to synthesize fatty acids, which therefore must be obtained direct from external sources such as the mother's milk. During breast-feeding, the infant's brain continues to take up DHA and 15% of brain growth occurs after birth.

What the mother consumes has the potential to be passed on to the developing child, therefore only the purest pharmaceutical grade fish oil, has been used in Pregnacare Omega-3 capsules found in Pregnacare Plus, Max and Breastfeeding. Fish oil is oil derived from the tissues of oily fish.

If you are having difficulty swallowing capsules we recommend after chewing some food (e.g. banana), just before you swallow, pop the capsule into your mouth and swallow it together with the chewed food, followed by some liquid. The throat opens up wider automatically to swallow the chewed food and hence the capsule should go down with greater ease. Alternatively, the capsules may be swallowed with thicker liquids such as yoghurts or smoothies.
